Residence in Oxford #1

The entire program spent a week at University of Oxford, the oldest school in all of Oxford!
It was great, and everyone was really sad to leave by the end of the week. Maybe because Oxford feels more like a "city" than Bath does. Not exactly the feel of London, but the flavor of it. There were lots of new places to see and explore. Also, everyone got singles, which was probably a nice break for everyone who has been used to living in a house with nine or more people. I personally had an awesome room that had a huge lounge/study area attached, just for me!
Check out the wall sculpture of the Oxford tutor process: wacking individual students on the head with heavy books. Actually, the tutor method of teaching sounds pretty cool and intense. You meet with a tutor individually twice a week, writing a paper every week. The tutor sits there and tears your paper to shreds, really making you own up to everything you've written and every misplaced punctuation. So, isn't it better to have a tutor give you personal attention when they smack you on the head, instead of seminar-style professors, grabbing hold of an enormous book and hoping it hits as many heads possible? That's about as far as I can take that analogy.

Another great thing about Oxford was the fact that everyone lived in closer proximity to each other. I got to hang out with/get know people better, people who live on the other side of Bath, and I don't always get to see outside of class. It was a bit of a bonding experience in that regard.
